New Optional Rule - Bad Magazines Whether it results from wear & tear from age, shoddy manufacturing techniques, or low-budget materials, some magazines just don't work the way they should. This optional rule is meant to represent magazines that are exactly that: Bad! Any firearm that is using a Bad Magazine has it's error range increased by 40%. 1. Buying Bad Magazines on Purpose Sometimes one might encounter magazines for sale at a price that seems too good to be true, and it generally is. Consult the table below to determine the price of a Bad Magazine for a given magazine type: Original Magazine Cost Bad Magazine Cost 1 WP 1 WP for 5 2 WP 1 WP for 3 3 WP 1 WP for 2 4 WP or more 1 WP each 2. Buying Bad Magazines by Accident Buying all your equipment second hand often means getting equipment "as-is". Whether it was dropped one too many times, left loaded in someone's closet for years, or lost and replaced with a shoddy low-cost alternative, it's not surprising to get Bad Magazines when buying used. When buying a firearm in used condition, roll a D% in secret for each magazine it comes with. If the result is lower than the percentage discount for the item's condition, the magazine is a Bad Magazine. For example, if a character buys a gun in Good condition (for 75% the cost), the magazine is Bad on a D% roll of 25 or lower. 3. Bad Magazines for NPCs The player characters aren't the only ones that come across bad magazines. Often it will be thematically appropriate for NPCs to posess and use Bad Magazines. In such cases, reduce the NPC's battle value by 1 for each firearm they possess that is using a Bad Magazine. 4. Identifying Bad Magazines Bad Magazines can be identified with a simple inspection requiring a TN 18 Knowledge (Tactics) check. A character receives a +3 bonus on this check for each time the magazine in question was used in a firearm the character was using when it Jammed. 5. Fixing Bad Magazines While it's often not worth the money or effort to do so, Bad Magazines can be repaired if they've been identified as such. Doing so is a TN 15 Craft (Mechanical) check that requires 1 WP and 1 hour of work per magazine.
